come on ride the train {and annabelle lately}

Last weekend we finally took Annabelle downtown to ride the new QLINE streetcar. Annabelle is really into trains and by trains I mean almost anything that moves that is not a car and not a plane. So basically buses, streetcars, trolleys, actual trains, you get the idea.

Don’t let this face fool you. She was into it.

This was just as the QLINE was approaching. It was Annabelle’s job to keep a lookout and she did a great job.

As we were waiting I almost had butterflies in my stomach. Having lived in Chicago for a few years public transportation was something that I had come to know and love. It’s a small step compared to other cities transportation systems but I’m just so proud of our little city for continuing to make giant leaps forward. Love you, Detroit!

She insisted that she sit on my lap and Sarah sit on hers.

And then she got a little bolder. riding the new qline train downtown detroit on allweareblog.com riding the new qline train downtown detroit on allweareblog.com

We got on the train right across from Shake Shack at Congress Street and rode it up to Canfield Street so we could eat lunch at Hopcat. We ran into our friends while we were there and they were doing a Qline bar crawl. Isn’t that a fun idea?

After lunch we QLINE’d it back to Campus Martius and let Annabelle play on the urban beach for a few minutes before we had to head home. I love how imaginative she is being lately. She’s totally content to play by herself and be a teacher, a doctor, or most often Sarah’s mommy.

Here are a few more things about Annabelle lately:

  • A few weeks ago we went to Detroit Kid City where they have a pretend Barber shop that she calls a Farmer shop. She still talks about it and it takes me a minute every time, “You know mama, the place where you can get your hair done or shave like daddy. The Farmer shop.”
  • If she thinks something is funny she’ll say, “That’s kind of like silly.”
  • The other day I said to her, “What will I do when you get too big and I can’t hold you anymore?” and she said, “You can hold my hand.”
  • I asked her to wash her hands and she said, “I can purpley do that” {instead of probably}.
  • This morning on the way to school we were talking and she said, “Some day I’m gonna have a baby in my tummy and she’s gonna be a girl baby and she’s gonna be in there for a long time and then I’ll get her out and she’s gonna be a big baby and she’s gonna live with us.” Followed by, “Can you ever have a backpack with a baby in it?” Clearly she is concerned about her productivity once the big girl baby comes.
